Dr. Tracy Capes is a fellowship-trained urogynecologist and surgeon practicing at the Center for Incontinence and Pelvic Floor Disorders at the Aurora Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Improving the quality of life for women is at the heart of Dr. Capes practice. She is one of just a handful of American ob-gyn surgeons who specialize in this area, so her expertise is at the center of our efforts at A Stitch in Time team.
Dr. Capes’s interest in international women’s healthcare began in medical school, when she rotated through Coronation Women’s Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. The disparity between health care for women in the US and the developing world was shocking to a young doctor from Wisconsin, and she made a commitment to use her skills to bridge the gap.
Over the last three years, Dr. Capes has traveled with surgical teams to Niger and Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa to treat women suffering from obstetric fistula. She was a key member of the Stitch in Time surgical team on our trips to Bangladesh in January 2011 and 2012.
Dr. Capes received her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University in New York and her fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery/Urogynecology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, also in New York.
